The rubric

Every product gets a 0–10 score built from five weighted factors: real-world heat output against its spec sheet — how fast and how evenly it warms a room, not the square footage on the box (30%), safety certification and features — tip-over and overheat shutoff, cool-touch surfaces, UL/ETL listing, and for fuel heaters, CO and ventilation design (25%), efficiency and cost to run — thermostat quality, ECO cycling, and how well it avoids wasting watts (20%), noise and comfort — fan noise, heat delivery style, and how it feels to live with (15%), and support — warranty terms, parts availability, and brand track record (10%). Scores are relative within a category: a 9.0 space heater and a 9.0 humidifier are both excellent at their own jobs, not equivalents.

Independence

Brands do not pay for placement, cannot buy a score, and do not see reviews before publication. Rankings change when the products or prices change — not when a vendor emails us.

How we make money

When you buy through our Amazon links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model, and it only works if our recommendations keep being right. Full details in our affiliate disclosure.

Prices

Where we display an Amazon price, it comes from Amazon's product data API, is refreshed throughout the day, and is timestamped. Where we can't show a live price, we show a typical street price clearly labeled as such — the "Buy on Amazon" button always leads to the current number.
