Westinghouse 60" Electric Fireplace Heater Review

A 60-inch linear fireplace that leads with smart-home control — Alexa and Google Home through the Westinghouse app, 144 flame-and-ember color combinations, and a 24-hour timer.

Westinghouse 60" Electric Fireplace Heater

The verdict

Westinghouse is a new name in this category, and it isn't competing on flame depth the way Touchstone does — it's competing on control. The app pairs with Alexa and Google Home, the flame and ember colors run through 144 combinations at five brightness levels and five speeds, and the 24-hour timer is the longest here. Underneath that layer it's the same format as every other linear fireplace: a 750/1,500W fan-forced heater, a 62–82°F thermostat, and flame that runs independently of heat. It's also the most expensive fireplace we carry and the newest to the category, so you're paying for smart-home integration and color depth, not a flame effect we can vouch for against Touchstone's decade of refinement.

What we like

  • +Alexa and Google Home compatible via the Westinghouse app — no other fireplace here can be voice-controlled or scheduled from a phone
  • +144 flame-and-ember color combinations with 5 brightness levels and 5 flame speeds — the most customizable effect in this guide
  • +Installs recessed (5.56 in back depth fits most 2×6-plus cavities) or surface wall-mounted
  • +750/1,500W fan-forced heater with a 62–82°F thermostat; flame runs independently of heat
  • +24-hour timer, the longest of any fireplace we carry

What to know

  • −New to the category — no multi-year track record like Touchstone's
  • −The most expensive electric fireplace we carry, well above the R.W.FLAME and PuraFlame
  • −Full color and scheduling control needs the app; the remote covers the basics only
  • −Flame realism hasn't been benchmarked here against Touchstone's more established layered effect

Full review

Westinghouse is a new name in this category for us, and the pitch is different from the three linear fireplaces we already carry: instead of competing on flame depth or price, the 60-inch leads with smart-home integration. The Westinghouse app pairs with Alexa and Google Home, so the flame, its color, and the heater can be scheduled or voice-controlled the way a smart plug or a thermostat can — something none of the R.W.FLAME, Touchstone, or PuraFlame units in this guide offer. It's also the most customizable flame on paper: 144 combinations of flame and ember color, five brightness levels, and five flame speeds, versus a fixed handful of presets on the budget units.

Underneath the app is the same fireplace format as everything else here: a 5.56-inch-deep unit that recesses into a stud wall or hangs on the surface, a 750/1,500W fan-forced heater behind the glass with a 62–82°F thermostat, and a flame that runs independently of the heat. The 24-hour timer is the longest in the category — useful if you want the flame running through a whole evening without babysitting it. At 1,500 watts it's the same ~5,100 BTU as the Touchstone and R.W.FLAME: enough to take the edge off a bedroom or a living-room corner, not a furnace replacement.

The honest caveat is that this is a new entrant without the years of user feedback the Touchstone Sideline has, and it's also the most expensive fireplace we carry — meaningfully more than the Touchstone, let alone the R.W.FLAME. You're paying for the smart-home layer and the deepest color customization in the category, not for flame realism we can vouch for as superior to Touchstone's established layered effect. If voice control and app scheduling matter to you, it's the only fireplace here that delivers them; if flame quality and a proven track record matter more, the Touchstone remains the safer bet. Plan the install around a dedicated outlet in the cavity, same as any other linear fireplace.

Best for: Living rooms where smart-home scheduling and voice control for the flame and heat matter as much as the fire itself.
