Envi LE5012P Plug-In Electric Panel Heater Review
A thin, fanless 500W panel heater meant to run continuously as background zone heat — cool to the touch, silent, and safe enough to leave running in a kid's room.

The verdict
The LE5012P isn't trying to compete with the 1,500W fan heaters on this page — it's a different category entirely. A slim convection panel mounts flush to the wall and radiates a slow, continuous 500W of heat with no fan, no glowing element, and a surface that stays around 90°F. It's rated for about 150 sq ft as supplemental heat, which is modest, but the safety profile (a wall-sense sensor that cuts power if it's pulled off the wall, a genuinely cool-to-touch surface) and the 3-year warranty make it the one to consider for a room where something needs to run unattended for hours at a time.

What we like
- +Only fanless panel heater in this guide — a 2-inch-deep convection panel instead of a fan-forced box
- +Designed to run continuously as zone heat; a wall-sense sensor cuts power if it's pulled off the wall
- +Cool-to-touch surface (~90°F) — genuinely safe for kids' rooms and pet-occupied spaces
- +Made in USA; complies with UL 2021 / CSA safety standards
- +3-year manufacturer warranty, among the longest of any heater we carry
What to know
- −Only 500W — a third of the 1,500W every other plug-in heater here makes; it won't blast a cold room warm fast
- −Rated for ~150 sq ft — a zone heater, not a room heater outside a small space
- −Dial thermostat only; no digital display, and the Wi-Fi 'Smart Envi' version costs more
- −Costs more than several 1,500W heaters here despite making much less heat
Full review
Every other heater in this guide is a fan blowing air past a hot element, sized to the 1,500W ceiling a 120V outlet allows. The Envi LE5012P is a different idea entirely: a thin, fanless panel that mounts flush to the wall and radiates a slow, continuous convection current — Envi calls it Stack Convection — at just 500 watts. It isn't trying to blast a cold room warm in five minutes. It's meant to run for hours or days at a time as a quiet backdrop of heat, the way a towel warmer or a baseboard radiator does, so a bathroom or a drafty home office holds a comfortable temperature without a space heater cycling on and off all day.
The tradeoff is obvious and the company is upfront about it: 500 watts is a third of what a ceramic box heater makes, and Envi rates it for about 150 square feet as a supplemental source, not a primary one. What you get instead is a genuinely different safety profile. The panel's surface stays around 90°F — warm, not hot — and it mounts with a wall-sense sensor that cuts power the moment the unit is pulled off the wall, a meaningfully different failure mode than a floor heater's tip-over switch. It's the heater we'd point to for a kid's room or a small home office where something running unattended for hours needs to stay genuinely safe to touch.
There's no digital display or app on this model — the plug-in LE5012P is a dial thermostat and a wall bracket, full stop; Envi sells a Wi-Fi 'Smart Envi' version for more if that matters. It's made in the USA, backed by a 3-year warranty (longer than every heater here except the Vornado), and it fills a category — fanless zone/panel heating — that nothing else in this guide covers. If the room needs fast, forceful heat, buy a fan heater instead; if it needs quiet, constant, safe background warmth in a small space, this is the one to reach for.
Best for: A bathroom, home office, or bedroom that needs constant low-level background heat instead of an on/off blast — especially where a genuinely cool-to-touch surface matters.
