Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI Phoenix Review

A slim wall-mounted infrared heater you control from your phone — zero floor space, a safe-to-touch grille, and real 1,500W heat.

Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI Phoenix

The verdict

The Phoenix solves the problems floor heaters create: it hangs on the wall where nothing can knock it over, the grille is designed to stay cool enough to touch, and the Wi-Fi app lets you schedule heat or turn it on from the car. It's a proper 1,500W infrared heater with a thermostat, not a gimmick, and the wall-mount form factor makes it the best choice in this category for a nursery, a kid's room, or a bathroom-adjacent hallway. The app is occasionally fussy and the fan is audible up close, but the concept is right.

What we like

  • +Wall-mounted: no floor footprint, no tip-over risk, kids and pets can't knock it over
  • +Safe-to-touch front grille and cool-running housing
  • +Wi-Fi app with scheduling, Alexa/Google voice control, plus a manual control panel
  • +Real 1,500W infrared heat with a thermostat — not a decorative panel
  • +Optional feet let it stand on the floor if you'd rather not mount it

What to know

  • App setup and reliability are average; the hardware is better than the software
  • Small fan is audible at close range
  • Needs an outlet near where it mounts (the cord is not long)
  • Same 1,500W / ~150–200 sq ft primary-heat reality as any plug-in

Full review

Most space-heater safety advice boils down to 'keep it where it can't be knocked over and where nothing can fall on it,' and the easiest way to do that is to hang the heater on the wall. The Phoenix is built for exactly that: a slim infrared panel that mounts in minutes, draws 1,500W from a nearby outlet, and has a grille engineered to stay touchable. For a nursery or a toddler's room it's the heater we'd choose over any floor unit, full stop.

The Wi-Fi control is the other reason to buy it. Schedule the room to warm before the kids wake up, check that it's off from work, or tell Alexa to turn it on while you're carrying groceries. The app is competent rather than great — pairing occasionally takes two tries, and firmware updates have come and gone — but the heater has a physical control panel, so the app never holds you hostage. Heat output is genuine: it warms a 12×12 room on its own and takes the chill off larger rooms.

Limitations are the usual plug-in reality plus one practical note: you need an outlet close to the mounting spot, because the cord isn't meant to snake across a wall and it must never be run through an extension cord or power strip. If you'd rather it stand on the floor, the included feet make it a standard (if shallow) portable heater. For the safety-first use case, nothing else in this category is as well suited.

Best for: Nurseries, kids' rooms, hallways, and small offices where a floor heater is a hazard or just in the way.
