The verdict

The UberHeat 5 is the budget ceramic heater to choose over the Lasko 754200/754201 if tip-over protection matters to you โ€” it has one, the Lasko doesn't. Two heat settings, an adjustable thermostat, overheat protection, and a housing that stays cool make it a sensible desk, bathroom, or small-bedroom heater. It's a touch louder than the Lasko on high and the thermostat is basic, but it's a safer-feeling unit at the same price.

Typical price: ~$49 (typical street price โ€” current price shown on Amazon)

What we like

  • +Tip-over switch plus overheat protection and a cool-touch housing
  • +1,500W high / 900W low with an adjustable thermostat
  • +Small, light, and easy to carry room to room
  • +3-year warranty

What to know

  • โˆ’Fan noise is noticeable on high
  • โˆ’Analog dial thermostat, no timer, no remote
  • โˆ’Short throw โ€” a personal-zone heater, not a room heater

Full review

The UberHeat 5 and the Lasko 754200/754201 are the two default cheap ceramic heaters, and the decision between them comes down to one feature: the Honeywell has a tip-over switch. Knock it over and it shuts off. That's the difference between a heater we'd put in a kid's room or a dorm and one we'd keep under an adult's desk, and it costs the same money.

Performance is otherwise the same 1,500 watts of ceramic heat everyone gets from a 120V outlet. It warms a personal zone fast, the thermostat dial cycles the element once the nearby air is warm, and the cool-touch housing is genuinely cool everywhere except the grille. The fan is a bit louder than we'd like on high; on low it fades into the background.

It isn't a room heater โ€” the throw is short and there's no oscillation โ€” so treat it as a warm-zone appliance and it'll serve well for years. Plug directly into the wall, keep it three feet from anything that burns, and don't run it on a vanity where it could get splashed.

Best for: A desk, a bathroom counter, or a dorm room where you want a cheap ceramic heater with a tip-over switch.
