Vornado AVH10 Whole Room Heater with Auto Climate Review

The MVH's smarter sibling: the same vortex circulation, plus Auto Climate Control that continuously adjusts fan speed and heat output to hold a set temperature instead of just cycling on and off around a dial.

Vornado AVH10 Whole Room Heater with Auto Climate

The verdict

The AVH10 keeps everything we like about the Vornado MVH โ€” vortex circulation that spreads heat evenly across a room instead of pooling it in one spot โ€” and upgrades the control layer. Where the MVH's dial thermostat just cycles the element on and off around wherever you left the knob, the AVH10's Auto Climate Control reads the room continuously and modulates both fan speed and heat output to hold a set number, shown on a digital display instead of a numberless dial. It's still capped at the same 1,500 watts every 120V heater is, so it won't out-heat the MVH โ€” what you're paying the roughly $15 premium for is a smoother, more precisely held temperature and a display you can actually read.

What we like

  • +Auto Climate Control continuously modulates fan speed and heat output to hold a set temperature, rather than just cycling on/off around a dial
  • +Same vortex circulation as the MVH โ€” evens out a whole room instead of blasting one spot
  • +Digital display and numbered thermostat replace the MVH's markingless dial
  • +Tip-over shutoff, overheat shutoff, cool-touch case, ETL listed
  • +Fan-only mode for year-round air circulation

What to know

  • โˆ’Same 1,500W ceiling as the MVH โ€” this buys smarter delivery, not more heat
  • โˆ’Costs more than the MVH for a control upgrade rather than a heat upgrade
  • โˆ’No timer or remote at this price
  • โˆ’Newer to the lineup than the MVH, so it doesn't yet have the same multi-year track record

Full review

Vornado's MVH earned its spot here on vortex circulation alone: instead of aiming a fan at your shins, it uses a twisting column of air to push heat around a whole room via the walls and ceiling, so there's no cold corner and no scorched knee. The AVH10 is built on the same idea but closes the loop โ€” Auto Climate Control watches the room's temperature and continuously adjusts both fan speed and heating power to hold your setpoint, rather than the MVH's blunter approach of cycling the element fully on or fully off around wherever a numberless dial happens to be turned. In practice that means fewer of the temperature swings you get from an on/off thermostat, and a display that tells you exactly what you set instead of asking you to remember 'a little past halfway.'

Everything else carries over from the MVH: the same 1,500W/750W two-stage output, the same tip-over and overheat shutoffs, the same cool-touch case, and ETL listing. That's the honest limit of what a plug-in heater can do โ€” 1,500 watts is 1,500 watts no matter how cleverly you deliver it, so don't expect the AVH10 to warm a room the MVH can't. What you're buying is precision: a heater that holds 70ยฐF at 70ยฐF instead of drifting a few degrees above and below it, which matters more in a room you're sitting in for hours than one you just want to take the chill off of.

At roughly $15 more than the MVH for the same wattage, the AVH10 is worth it specifically for people who've found the MVH's dial thermostat frustrating to fine-tune, or who want a legible display over a knob. If you don't care about precise setpoint control, the MVH remains the better value at a lower price with the same circulation and the same safety package. Standard rules apply either way: wall outlet only, three feet of clearance, and keep it off carpet thick enough to block the intake.

Best for: Living rooms and large bedrooms where you want the MVH's whole-room vortex heat with a thermostat that adjusts itself instead of a dial you set and forget.
